Ghostrunner might be standing on the shoulders of games like Mirror's Edge, and even Dishonored, in terms of inspiration with its parkour and slick swordplay. Unrivalled parkour mechanics and tough-as-nails combat more than make up for a bland cyberpunk setting. Granted, its difficulty curve will frustrate you not unlike a Souls-like game, but once you get to the rhythm and groove of it, you'll ace it and aim for a better run. If you want a surprise entry in the action genre, look no further than the fast and frenetic Ghostrunner. A must-have for lovers of fast skill experiences but not for the impatient ones. Ghostrunner is one of the best surprises of 2020. IGN Spain - Álex Pareja - Spanish - 9 / 10 Ghostrunner's lightning-fast gameplay makes for a short-lived but memorable action game with some incredible moments. In a time where nearly every game demands your full attention, Ghostrunner actually deserves it. The story is solid, the world is beautiful, and the precision insane - but this is a hardcore experience from start to finish Ghostrunner is built for that subset of gamers who enjoy the steepest challenge. If you like Super Meat Boy and/or Mirror's Edge and adhere to the Cyberpunk worlds, don't miss Ghostrunner ! Those are what you will need to sharpen in order to be able to improve your scores on your second run and to benefit from all the capacities of your character. Accurate in 99% of cases, it challenges both your sagacity and your reflexes. Ghostrunner is a very plesant surprise for anyone who likes to keep gameplay at the center of their experience - to the detriment of the narrative side. Gameblog - Vincent Elmer-Haerrig - French - 9 / 10 Ghostrunner is a hard-charging parkour climb, but summiting its platforming challenges is a thrill worth fighting for. And Ghostrunner has so many of these moments that you can’t help but love it. It might take a few attempts, but when you finally clear a room of enemies in one continuous motion as if it was choreographed for a blockbuster movie, you can’t help but feel a great sense of accomplishment and awe. The gameplay, though, is what will ultimately make you love it. It absorbs you in a world that’s dripping with atmosphere thanks to its stellar visuals, and its pumping soundtrack makes you uncontrollably tap your feet. It’s certainly the most action-packed and exciting. It's fast, frenetic, and, even in the face of its weaker moments, endlessly satisfying.īut as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into with Ghostrunner, it might just prove to be your favourite game of the year. In Ghostrunner, a single slash divides life and death. A seasoned ninja strikes perfectly without any fatal faults an apt summary of the gameplay loop and Ghostrunner as a whole. Slicing and sprinting through each dilapidated factory and string of sharply lit billboards is a rush because of how satisfying it is to control as well as how it, through its design, pushes players to play well enough to get the most out of its systems. Game Revolution - Michael Leri - 4.5 / 5 starsĪnd even though that world is a broken dystopian nightmare, Ghostrunner‘s gameplay is just the opposite. Not only is Ghostrunner one of this year’s best games, but it’s also some of the most satisfying gameplay I’ve experienced in years. Though the story is complete for me, I'll most assuredly be returning to this to see how well I can hone my cyberpunk ninja skills.Įxplosion Network - Dylan Blight - 9.5 / 10 Through all of the frustration and cursing at myself for screwing up something that I knew I should have gotten right, I was still having a blast and loving every minute of the game. A shame, because a little tweaking, some alternative play options, would have made it a more enjoyable experience all-round.Īs I played through the roughly eight-hour campaign this week I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing the unholy union of Hotline Miami and Mirror's Edge that I didn't know I was missing in my life. Ghostrunner then, will be a polarising game, which unfortunately One More Level, lean strongly on the side of, it’s tough-as-nails, and if you don’t like it then play something else mentality.
